“Our Easter Morning Study & The Unexpected Afternoon Test”
On the morning of Good Friday, we decided to do something different.
Instead of jumping into our usual routine and following their regular children devotional, we did a simple but heartfelt study on the death of Jesus and the true significance of Easter.
We read the story of the cross not just the pain but the purpose behind it: forgiveness, sacrifice, love in action, and obedience even when it’s hard.
I asked them questions like:
• “Why did Jesus forgive even when He was hurt?”
• “What does it mean to love people who don’t treat you right?”
Their responses were honest, curious, and at times, deeply touching.
Fast forward to the afternoon…
A little misunderstanding broke out between them. One came to me visibly upset and said,
“Mummy, I still love you… but I don’t want to talk to her right now.”
She was trying to exclude the one who offended her but still cling to love where it was convenient.
I paused for a moment, looked her gently in the eye, and said:
“But remember what we talked about this morning? Love and forgiveness go together. Jesus didn’t say ‘I love God, but I’m not dealing with these people.’ He loved everyone—even the ones who hurt Him.”
You could see the gears turn in her head. And that was the lesson in motion.
Here’s what I learnt again today as a parent:
You can’t expect a harvest where you didn’t plant.
You can’t expect a child to be kind, forgiving, understanding, or emotionally intelligent when you’ve never consistently taught or modelled those values.
Start early.
Be deliberate.
Repeat the values.
Create teachable moments.
And when life brings the test, help them apply the truth.
Easter isn’t just a season; it’s a lifestyle.
If Jesus could forgive under such pressure, we can learn to do the same. starting in our homes, we can build a family of forgivers.
Your home is the first church your children will know.
Let resurrection happen in your family too.
Thanks for reading.
See you in the next wholesome moment.@highlight
